filters are great, but great skin is better.Unknown
Why, on earth, do we have acne?!?!?! Sometimes I felt like Lara Croft fighting the apocalypse with my multiple serums & creams! But today I would like to show you my recent skincare routine, because – I FINALLY HAVE THE RESULTS I ALWAYS DREAMED OF!
A few months ago a brand caught my eye – the product design was just exactly my aesthetic and their name was fancy, so I decided to google it. And voila – it was a skincare brand! After reading a ton of reviews I decided to give it a try, but then I realized – I had no freakin clue where to start or what to buy. They have a big range of products, you know, and they all have very chemical names. So by just reading them, you have no clue what it’s about. And how should I combine these products?
You see, I had so many questions in my head, and it was quite difficult to look through all the products ( it took me like 2 hours!), so I decided to write a little guide on how to use my favorite ones and, what’s maybe more important, how to combine them!

WHAT IS THE ORDINARY?
The Ordinary is one of the subsidiary companies of DECIEM. They’re offering effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The pricing between 10$-20$ makes it very affordable to test out their product range. The main concept is that with the help of their minimalistic products you can create your own, unique skincare routine which perfectly fits your skin type. Moreover, they’re vegan and cruelty-free, which is a big plus point.
WHY DO I LOVE THE ORDINARY SO MUCH?
- there are no false promises – you get what you buy
- you exactly know what you buy
- you can create your own perfect skincare routine for your personal skin type
- it’s affordable
ARE THERE ANY NEGATIVE POINTS?
- it takes time to understand the products
- depending on your skin type you maybe need a lot of products
- depending on your skin type your skincare routine will take some time
FOR WHICH SKIN TYPE IS YOUR ROUTINE USEFUL?
I personally have very oily skin, so I use a lot of oils and hydrating products to prevent my skin to get to dry. Because when it gets dry, the skin tries to regulate its hydration by itself which leads to an overproduction of oil. If you have another skin type, don’t worry – maybe you just need to skip one or two of the products or add another one. I’ll link some further information down below.
A LITTLE DISCLAIMER
I’m not a professional, so don’t rely on me too much. I just gained my knowledge through the internet, so please read the description of the products carefully before using them! For further information, check out these websites:
STEP 1 // Squalane Cleanser (AM + PM)
I start my morning & evening skincare routine with washing my face. For this, I use the Squalane Cleanser which removes dirt and makeup while leaving the skin feeling smooth and moisturized. I’m so in love with this one because the cleanser from other brands mostly made my skin feel dry, which is the worst that can happen if you’re already dealing with oily skin. It’s also fits all skin types.
STEP 2 // Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution (PM)
This Toning solution exfoliates the skin for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. It also has soothing benefits because of the inclusion of aloe vera and ginseng root. I use this toning solution in the evening because then my skin has enough time to absorb the ingredients.
STEP 3 // Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% (AM + PM)
This formula combines very high concentrations of two of the most powerful and important antioxidants in skincare: Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid. Resveratrol is a natural phenol found in several plants and our pure source is 100% derived from Japanese Knotweed. Ferulic Acid is a high-potency phytochemical antioxidant found naturally in walls of plant cells.
STEP 4 // AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution ( Monday + Thursday PM )
This Peeling Solution is quite famous on Instagram, and I’m in love as well! It’s a fruit peeling, so there’s no danger that you’re hurting your face aka some pimples when rubbing it over your face. In fact, that’s what I don’t like about sea salt peelings, etc.- they’re hurting, and afterward, it’s mostly worse as before.
STEP 5 // Marine Hyaluronics ( AM + PM)
If you want your skin hydrated, then this is what you’re looking for! Marine Hyaluronics combines lightweight marine-derived water reservoirs that attract and hold water like hyaluronic acid (HA) but are lighter than HA in texture and feel.
STEP 6 // Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% ( PM )
Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 10% formulation offers mild exfoliation and is supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation.
STEP 7 // Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% ( AM + PM )
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.
STEP 8 // Buffet ( AM + PM )
This product combines a wide range of anti-aging ingredients. It’s one of their bestsellers and definitely worth a try!
STEP 9 // Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% ( AM + PM )
This solution is from the Vitamin C range of The Ordinary, which means that it’s an effective antioxidant, brightens the skin tone and reduces signs of aging.
STEP 10 // 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil ( PM )
Marula Oil is a very light oil that offers antioxidants, hydrates the skin and is claimed to help restore a radiant tone. Because of this, I love to use it before sleep – my skin gets the chance to absorb all of the factors which help to prevent high oil production. Sometimes I also use it on my hair – it’s a real all-rounder!
STEP 11 // High-Spreadability Fluid Primer (before Makeup)
Yeah, you’ve made it to the last step! When I’m planning to use makeup, I first apply this Primer as a base. It gives my skin a smooth and hydrated feeling which stays throughout the day. In other words – you’ll feel fresh as a baby the whole day!
I hope this guide was able to help you!
