The best time for new beginnings, is now.Unknown
Welcome to my first monthly plan with me! I hope you all had a great start into 2020 & are motivated to bring your new year’s resolutions into reality!
Yesterday I already talked about my personal resolutions for 2020 ( click here if you want to check it out!), and today I would like to show you how I plan out my months to actually reach these goals. So grab a planner or a piece of paper, don’t forget the coffee & let’s start!

MY PLANNER ESSENTIALS
1 // JOB & SCHOOL
What I’ll write down:
- one day per week where I’ll spend my day studying ( Starbucks etc.)
- exam dates
- job/school appointments
The first thing I like to do is to look after my deadlines, work times and upcoming exam dates. These are things I have to do, so I definitely have to check them out first to get an idea of how much time I’ll have for the other categories.
This month I just have one upcoming exam for which I already studied a lot, so I think I’ll only need the day before the exam for some revisions and preparation. Spending this day at a local cafe doesn’t sound bad, does it?
Oh, and I should start studying for the Cambridge exam which is set in two months. But really guys, I could need some serious practice before wasting 200 bucks, so I think one study day per week would be great.
Normally I would also need to take a look at my work hours, but I decided to take a break, at least till summer. I need some time to look after myself, the last few months were kinda hard to me. But if you have some other things that fit under the category “job”, take a look at them as well and note down all the due dates and work times you need to look after.
For this section, I only use my planner by JO & JUDY, not my digital planner.
2 // BLOG & SOCIAL MEDIA
What I’ll note down:
- blog posts
- Instagram posts
1 /// BLOG
My blog is my baby, my safe space, my diary – and blogging is something I could imagine myself doing as a job. So I have to treat it like a job! If you aren’t a blogger or influencer, you can skip this part, but if you also would like to plan out your content, then this section could be interesting for you.
I tried several techniques to plan out my digital life – using a normal planner, an excel table, some apps & a digital planner. And for me, a digital planner works the best! I use the apple calendar app which is synchronizing with my Macbook, perfect for checking your content ideas at home and on the go. And you can change and switch the things without destroying a beautiful planner – yes, it’s the perfectionists in my who is talking, I know : D
Okay, so the first thing I normally do is to plan out my blog post. I decided to post every Wednesday at 8 PM CET & every 19th, 29th and 1st of the month ( I’ll talk about these special dates in another post – it’s a little secret! ) Now I need to come up with content ideas. Sometimes I come up with my own ideas, sometimes I use Pinterest or other bloggers for inspiration. Then I create my own section for my blog post in my planner app and create an event on the day I want to post.
2 /// INSTAGRAM
Let’s get over to Instagram: I also plan out the most Instagram posts – it’s necessary to keep up a theme and also to post daily. You cannot imagine how much work it is to create all those pics every month : D For this task I use an app called Planoly, but first I have to take the pics. Later, after shooting the pics, I’ll insert them in my Planoly feed, but that’s another topic – If you would like to read a post about how exactly I plan out my Instagram feed and what filter I use, comment down below!
3 // FITNESS & FOOD
Let me guess – one of your new year’s resolutions is to work out a bit more, isn’t it? : D For me the perfect strategy is to actually plan out when I will hit the gym, because, you know, when I’ve to decide between Netflix & gym… bad idea!
First I create a new section on my digital planner called workout, then I will create a new event on every day I want to do something for my fitness. Later I’ll add these appointments to my daily planning section in my physical planner, that’s also where I’ll decide on which exact time I’ll hit the gym.
Okay, let’s go to the next section – food!
For me, it’s kinda important to have control about what I eat. Obviously I’m still living with my family, including my little siblings, so it’s not possible for my mom to cook the most exotic meals. Ergo – if I want to eat something other than rice & fish sticks, I have to cook it by myself. Don’t understand me wrong, that’s totally okay for me and I love cooking, but it also means I have to make a plan when I would like to cook, what I cook, and where I get the ingredients.
That’s why I grab my physical planner every Saturday morning & write down for every day of the upcoming week what I wanna cook and what I need for it. After that, I just walk over to the grocery store. Easy, isn’t it?
4 // MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS
Another important point, honey, is to look after your well-being. For me, it’s so important to have mental health days aka days on which I’m just spending time with myself! Last year I’ve done this every Sunday. It was a holy ritual and really helped me to prepare myself for the next week. And I think I’ll stick to it for 2020 as well. Okay, let’s take your digital planner & create a new event every day Sunday and call it mental health day – voila!
I also use these days to look after my hygiene. Do I need to make my nails? Do I need to shave? Should I recolor my hair again? Maybe a face mask would be great? Just look after yourself and use this day to feel truly relaxed and happy!
5 // SOCIAL
Yes, I admit, I’m a very introverted person. I mostly prefer to spend time with myself, crowds of people make me feel nervous and talking to strangers (on a sober level haha) is also horrible. But as I wrote in my post about my New Years Resolutions – Being socially active is important for my confidence!
That’s why I decided to set up some activities I’ll do with other people – my friends, my family, the mailman, don’t matter! ( no, okay, please don’t ask your mailman)
- sushi lunch date
- movie night
- dinner date
- a night out
- breakfast meetup
- city trip
- game night
For this section I also use my digital planner – it’s easier to change the dates if some of your friends might not be available on the day you considered.
6 // BOOKS & MOVIES
As the bookworm that I am, I couldn’t imagine myself in a world without books. As a child, I literally read like 50 books per year, but guys, it’s so embarrassing – in 2019 I just read 2!!! That’s why I decided to set my reading goal up to 24 for 2020, or in other words: 2 books per month.
This month I’ll start with these two beauties down there:
Mansfield Park focuses on the life of Fanny Price and her experience living at Mansfield Park, where she’s been sent due to her family’s financial problems. The main themes of the novel are the development and collapse of social relationships, slavery, a big topic during Austen’s lifetime, and morality.
If We Were Villains is the debut novel of American author M. L. Rio first published in 2017. The novel concerns a murder mystery surrounding Oliver Marks, a former actor at the fictional Dellecher Shakespeare conservatory and most of the novel takes place during his 4th and final year at the conservatory.
Not gonna lie, I’m also a great movie freak! I have a whole list of movies I wanna watch, and I think I’ll try to watch one of them per week. Oh, and I usually create a list of all the upcoming movies I wanna watch as well, so I can already plan out when I would like to see them in the theatre. Oh, for this I use my digital planner as well btw.
- JUDY ( COMING 2nd January)
- 1917 ( COMING 16th January)
- DOLITTLE ( COMING 30th January)
- LITTLE WOMAN (COMING 30th January)
- Ever after
- Star Wars Episode 1
7 // RESOLUTIONS
We’re almost done! Now we just have to take a look at our New Year’s Resolutions and check if we already covered them with the topics above. If not, try to find out one step to come nearer to your goal. In this way, you’ll reach your goals in small, but useful steps that guarantee success! Check out my blog post about my New Year Resolutions to see how I plan out my goals and what I do to actually reach them!
Okay, so here’s what I already covered:
- make new friends
- have mostly A’s on my school report
- read 24 books
- lose weight & get healthy again
Let’s take a look at the points which still needs to be covered:
- Launch my first online course
This month I’ll figure out a concept on how to bring this dream into reality. What is the best way to present the topics to the students? Which platform should I use? What topics should I include in my lessons? To make sure that I’ll really do this, let’s create an event on my digital planner. On this day I just have to do it, it’s settled!
- Become a plant nanny
Wohooo, I’ll buy my first plant baby this month! Maybe I should start with a cactus… Wish me luck!
- fight one point on my list of fears
I CAN DO IT! In these thirty days, I’ll tackle one of my fears. Really. Puh. I’m already sweating : D
- Visit Scheveningen
Unfortunately, I cannot do it this month because it would be actually pretty cold up there…
- NF Europe tour
I already have a ticket for one of his concerts in March, so yeah, this goal is like already settled!
- Visit Amsterdam
This is also not possible to do in January, I don’t have enough time, but there are still eleven months left, you know!
- Get my ears pierced
Uhhh I think I’ll pierce myself again this Friday, check out my story for more insights!
- Visit London
Also not possible to do this month…
- Get my own bank account
Because I’m still 17 I have to wait till September to tackle this one!
- Get my first tattoo
Same for this one, I have to wait till I’m 18!
- Buy my first car
Now I’ll start saving money for this, because, you know, a car is hella expensive!
- move out
Not a great topic to tackle in January, I’ll have to wait for this one at least till summer.
I hope I could help and motivate you to plan out your months as well! What are you most looking for in January? Or do you have any book/movie recommendations? Let’s meet down below!
